Your mattress should be firm enough to give support to your entire body. Do not ignore the pain. Many people attempt to ignore back pain and push through it. They just try ignoring their back discomfort. Ignoring back pain and attempting to move normally is likely to make the pain worse. Take a break and move around slower until the pain lets up.

Do not stay in the same position for too long, and stretch your muscles by walking around regularly.
Always keep good posture, even when sitting down, to protect your back from muscle pain and strain. Assuming that back pain is only the result of injury from physical activity is just not true. Standing or sitting in the same position for hours a day can also cause back discomfort.
You can protect your back by taking short walks during your breaks while you are at work. When you stretch your leg muscles via standing and walking, you are also stretching out your back muscles. This can help alleviate any compression issues and back discomfort that occur from sitting too long.
